In the previous article you learned how to seduce people into reading your stuff.

If you haven’t checked it out, it’s here: How These 3 Steps Will Get You More Sales (Part 1 - Seduction) (maonlinemarketing.com)

Now that you’ve got the seduction part dialed in, it’s time we talk about how to keep people reading your stuff.

How exactly do we do that?

By Using The BAR Test To Fix Your Writing.

“As an employee at our company your job is to look for solutions where no one else sees them, you need to be the link between problem solving and solution orientation. If someone is having problems with the copy machine it’s a good thing that you know exactly who to contact to get it fixed. If people don’t even know that Paul the copy machine technician exists, how will we ever get it fixed? That’s where you come in the picture.”

Did you make it through all that word vomit without thinking ‘what kind of AI bot wrote this crap’?

If so… we got work to do!

That nonsense is really from a job description I read the other day.

It doesn’t pass the BAR test.

'What exactly is this BAR test all about?'

Before the bar was even invented, the BAR test still worked, and it will keep working when we one day land on Mars, where there are no bars.

As long as there are humans you’ll be able to use it to drastically improve your copy.

How you use it is very simple:

You look at a piece of text and ask yourself:

‘does this sound like an alien talking or would I say this to a human being’

It works every time.

Here’s a sentence from above:

'As an employee at our company your job is to look for solutions where no one else sees them, If someone is having problems with the copy machine it’s a good thing that you know exactly who to contact to get it fixed. If people don’t even know that Paul the copy machine technician exists, how will we ever get it fixed.'

In a real conversation, that would sound something like this:

'Your job will be to solve problems that no one else can.'

Easy to read and straightforward, not like the 62 word sentence that I cut down to 12.

Write like you’re having a conversation with a friend, it will make you sound much more human and appealing to the people reading your stuff.

Conversations flow.

That’s what makes them interesting, not loooooong sentences where you need to gasp for air just to be able to finish it.

This is the mindset you need to get into, I promise it’ll improve your writing and increase your sales.

Follow along, where we will dig into the last chapter of this series.

Talk soon,

Martin
