7 Steps That's Guaranteed to Improve Your Writing And Create An Audience For Life
I’m sure you already know how important the headline is, how it hooks the reader, the way YOU got hooked into this one. If not, you should check out this article on that subject
So you’re getting plenty of clicks but your reader doesn't stay long. This actually happens to most writers, it doesn’t take a lot of google searches to find bad articles, but it does take time to find good ones.
There can be several reasons why that is, so lets go over 7 of them right away.
Don't be boring, don’t make it a punishment reading your stuff.
Instead, make it exciting. If the reader falls asleep and knocks his or her head on the table after reading the first sentence, it means it’s pretty boring.
Write in a conversational tone, simple and easy to understand sentences.
These are normal human beings we’re talking to, no need for fancy academic language. As tempting as it may be to do that to sound smarter, it will only lead to someone feeling stupid, then they’ll be far gone.
Connect with emotions. If the reader can relate to what you’re saying, then more likely they’ll keep on reading. You’ve been reading this far, and this point has a lot to do with that, so very important.
Lead one thing into the next to create a nice flow. Whether you’re telling a story or explaining something, you should always lead up to your final point, don’t give it away immediately.
Format is important, as boring as it may sound. If you write a two page article, with no spaces in between, just full on writing, it’s going to look so dense that people will scroll away faster than you can say byeeeeeeeeee.
Imagine this article you’re reading right now without any space in between, and no numbers for each point, you’ll have a heart attack just thinking about reading it.
Don’t bullshit people, actually provide your reader with solid content. It's fine to add a little spice to the story, but don’t go overboard, make it believable.
Start out with a bang, don’t invite your readers into the story - drag them in.
This means they should feel part of the story. To be invited to read doesn’t necessarily mean that they want to, but if you can drag someone and keep them reading, then you started out right.
